Newsflash: Decluttering is BIBLICAL!!

Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

I KNOW we have more than we could possibly need!

More clothes, more linens, more food, more toys, and certainly more blessings than one family could ever use in a lifetime.

God certainly does provide!

I am sure that I am a borderline hoarder. I hate throwing things away - and donating things we don't need is almost just as difficult.

I think of donating as blessing others with the excess with which my family has been blessed - and that helps. But it is still emotionally wrenching on my heart...why?

God has not blessed me with all of these riches because he wants me to hold onto them! We do NOT need all of these physical items in our home. We do not need so many clothes, toys, and stuff cluttering up our lives.

I strive to give away more of the blessings the Lord has given us, in an effort to bless those who are poor. In exchange, the Lord offers me the riches of heaven!

Dear Lord,
Please help me to remember that the true riches lie with you in heaven, awaiting my departure from this earthly life.

  1. Amen! This world is not our home and the blessings we receive here will soon pass away. We should store up (hoard) for ourselves treasures in Heaven. Amen!

  2. Funny, I was just fighting with my daughter over giving up some old socks with holes in them! I am trying to get her 8 year old brain to understand that the Lord gives and He takes away! Even socks with holes can be taken to the Mission here and recycled to make new fabric. Pray for me... I hope I don't have a mini-hoarder on my hands :) thank you, great reminder!

  3. Good afternoon! I always enjoy your posts & your honesty in all that you share with us. Listen, a little off subject, but I wanted to share with you a new tool that was introduced to our family over the holidays that you may want to check out & share with your readers. I know there are several of us Christian moms out here that follow y'all.. Children's Bible is an app designed for children 3-13 & shares Bible stories through comics. It is available for most smart phones & computers. We have found this is a great way to get our children in the habit of reading the Bible, & it's on their level. They have really enjoyed it & we are thrilled at their excitement with the Word. Just something we have found that works & wanted to pass along - check it out at - Just thought you may want to check it out & share with your readers. Really awesome tool for the kids & parents too. Thanks again for all you share - it's always an encouragement to come to your site!

  4. Thanks, Lesli - I will check it out!
Thank you Heidi, and Lisa, for your encouraging comments! :)

I truly enjoy putting my ideas in writing - and am glad someone is getting something good out of it!

    Glory be to God!

  5. Hey, I just came across your blog by doing a bit of blog-surfing, and I'm glad I did! I've added myself as your newest follower, and I hope you'll check out my Christian devotional site as well:
